“There’s been this remarkable internet bicker over the last two days about an NPR intern’s post describing how she’s never bought music and a very long “open letter” to her from the former lead singer of Cracker. It was all kind of crazy and seemed to hint that the problem was basically Young People. I didn’t care for that so I wrote a memoir of stealing music in the pre-internet days when I was young. Of course I want artists to get what they deserve as working people; but so many Dismemberment Plan fans found us from illegal and free sources that I feel like I at least have to be honest about my own experiences.
